Oh man, the memories! I’m directly transported to specific emotions in the past. Totally shocked that I own some of this stuff, so excited to listen to others. As the boombox I dug up acts as my time machine, I continue to dig through my collection. I came across tape after tape of 90’s house (with lots of divalicious vocals), an ancient looking thing with neon all over it labeled “THE COOL MIX”, and recordings of me an my sisters from when we were kids. In this clip, at the age of 4ish, I wish chicken beedie a happy birthday. I don’t know.
Maybe you are reading this now and you want to hold you very own 90’s dance party so you can show everybody how you do the Cabbage Patch. Maybe you still listen to tapes in your car and this could just brighten your commute. Maybe you collect this stuff. BUT, maybe you don’t live in Philly. I can mail them to you if you are willing to pay for the shipping via paypal. Email me: koco(at)misskoco.com

Updates:
item #014: Like A Prayer, Madonna
taken 2.13.08 by a photographer named Corey.
He said that the original tape had a scented insert. I was never aware of this.
item #027: Ease My Mind/Shell, Arrested Development
A woman at the First Person Arts salon on 2.13.2008 took this item solely based on the fact that it was labeled 27. I asked why, but she wouldn’t tell me. I liked that she opted to be mysterious and cryptic. In my journal she wrote, “All of life/me & 27/maybe a 5 or a 9/but always true”
The reason I wanted the Madonna tape is because of the song DEAR JESSIE. For some reason it always makes me cry but not because it’s sad, it has this effect on me because I want to go back to the place where Mermaids sing as they comb their hair and keep company with pink elephants while drinking lemonade after the love parade under dancing moons. Such an impossible place where summer time felt like years instead of months, where friends were easily made, where laughter was loud and long and were hurt feelings stained your skin for only a short time.
